Grant “Wishes” [Review]
And I don’t have any wishes
It started out as teasing
“Wishes” has been several years in the making, being teased at many of Grant’s shows, and even going as far as adding the intro of it to his entire catalog of music, and finally we get to hear this journey of a song.
Somehow this 4-minute piece manages to feel like a lifetime and I still don’t want it to end. “Wishes” is a coming of age story, it’s the result of letting go of all of your expectations, going with the flow, closing your eyes and taking that leap.
The melody reflects the story being told perfectly. When you fall asleep and let go of everything holding you back, you’re transported to the land of your dreams, worlds away. As you’re wandering this world, you can hear a transmission, as if from our world. The song builds this up, adding one sound after another, and McCall’s voice as your guide.
And I don’t have expectations
“Wishes” is a very personal song and it’s not for everyone. But for those who listen to it and actually let it swirl around in your mind, it’s an incredible work of art.
I typically don’t want to review singles, but this song is too important not to treat it as such. This song represents the start of something new.
